Nearly 5,800 individuals who have received vaccination against COVID-19 have become infected with the virus, stated the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Some of them developed serious illness and 74 people died. According to the CDC, 396 (7%) of those who got infected after getting vaccinated needed admission to a hospital.

This is the first indication from CDC on the effectiveness of the vaccines in real life, and the first indication that vaccines do not provide complete protection against severe disease and death.
