With attacks against doctors increasing in Kerala, the state chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has released a strong statement expressing its concerns over the important issue.

A joint statement by IMA President Dr P T Zacharias and Secretary Dr Gopikumar P has says that the attacks against doctors have surpassed all limits. The statement also said that IMA cannot ignore such instances and cannot be a mute spectator.

IMA referred to a recent incident when a female doctor was assaulted in Thiruvananthapuram and flagged its concern over attacks against women doctors. The statement said that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was shocked that people attached a woman doctor and tore off her clothes.

The doctors’ body demands strict implementation of laws from government in order to ensure the safety of doctors and hospitals. It cautioned that the situations are forcing doctors to stage protests.

IMA also urged the Center to introduce a new policy to stop the attacks against doctors. The doctors’ body also expressed shock over public apathy in condemning such attacks.
