COVID-19 vaccination for children: Guidelines to come by next week

COVID-19 vaccination for children is going to start soon. The government is working on the guidelines for vaccination in children below the age of 18 years and itis expected that the announcement will come by the end of next week, revealed a government source. 

Meanwhile, 70% of the country’s population has already been administered atleast one COVID-19 vaccine dose. Talking to Indian Express, the source said that the decision on the way vaccination for children will be phased will be made in the first half of the month. 

COVID-19 standing committee of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) is going to submit its scientific recommendations on the rollout of vaccine for children to the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVEC) in the coming days. The expert group will make a decision on prioritization of the categories of children for receiving the Zydus Cadila vaccine. 

NTAGI is evaluating the size of the vulnerable group and has looked into the scientific data on comorbidities among children. Once the NTAGI shares its recommendations, NEGVEC will make the final guidelines for vaccine rollout.
