The Effect of Carnosine Induced Venom Induced Acute Kidney Injury in Experimental Rat Model

  1. Methyl glyoxal is a carbonyl stress marker and oxidative protein product is an oxidative stress marker; both the markers rise typically with increase in severity of AKI and are proven surrogate markers.
  2. Increased AOPP and MG have been found to be associated with mortality, non-resolving AKI and increased duration of hospital stay.
  3. A study was conducted on Russell’s viper venom induced acute kidney injury model to evaluate the role of carnosine and the study results suggest that carnosine has renoprotective potential against venom induced AKI. More studies are needed to establish underlying mechanism.
