The main symptoms experienced by the patients, being treated at the Seven Hills Hospital the Andheri hospital for the Omicron variant included slightly itchy throat, fatigue, body ache and mild fever.

The hospital has handled 14 patients with the Omicron variant till now, out of which 13 have been discharged. One of the treating doctors said that 8 were asymptomatic, rest complained of sore throat, tiredness and body ache. No disease progression was reported and the HRCT scans of all the patients remained practically unchanged which inferred that there was no lung involvement. Mostly treatment included paracetamol for symptomatic patients and multivitamins for asymptomatic patients

The Seven Hills physician said that it was too early to comment on the severity of Omicron. High fever was observed in Delta patients, which was fortunately not there in Omicron patients. They had mild fever with hardly any spikes. Monoclonal antibodies were administered to the patients as no major progression of the disease was observed in anyone. Suresh Kakani, BMC’s additional municipal commissioner also added that to date no patients required any oxygen support or any escalation in treatment.

Dr Pradeep Awate, Maharashtra state surveillance officer said that among the 32 Omicron cases reported in the state, 50% were asymptomatic, the rest had mild fever on day 1, runny nose, and fever with a cough but no complaints related to anosmia or loss of smell were observed. Out of the 32 infected, 25 (78%) were vaccinated and five were minors. No major symptoms were seen in the 2 unvaccinated individuals. One of them was a case of re-infection and he suffered mild illness even during the last bout.

Mumbai had the highest cases tally of 13, followed by 10 in Pimpri Chinchwad. Local doctors said that among the infected 4 were children and asymptomatic despite being unvaccinated.
