Dr Rajeev Kapila, the Cochlear Implant surgeon and his team at the Deep Hospital in Ludhiana successfully performed the thinnest Cochlear Implant Surgery on a boy aged 4 years who had complete deafness, making it the first surgery of its kind in India. The doctors used the thinnest implant platform in the world with 3 Tesla MRI compatible implants. The implants would be functional from next week enabling the boy to hear for the first time since birth.

The founder of Deep Hospital, Dr Baldeep Singh praised the team and said that parents should be more vigilant if the child doesn’t respond to different noises normally and visit the doctor for an accurate diagnosis in case they see some deviation. Awareness about treatment options for hearing loss and early diagnosis could help the children receive treatment sooner and help to resolve their problems.(ETHealthWorld, June 10, 2022)
