DM Examination Simulation

A session on DM Examination Simulation was conducted by Prof Nikhil Tandon, Prof SK Singh, Prof Shubahankar Chowdhury, Prof Rajesh Rajput and Prof Mala Dharmalingam. The moderators for the session were Dr Ashu Rastogi and Dr Swayamsidha Mangaraj. The topics of discussion included Acromegaly, Cushing disease and Diabetes and Diabetic foot. The attending DM trainees were presented with different clinical scenarios and were asked related questions. For instance, under Cushing disease, a clinical scenario was presented to the trainees and various questions were asked such as ‘Why is there acne in Cushing disease?’, ‘What are the limitations of FGS?’, ‘What are the characteristics of Cushing striae?’, ‘What biochemical and hormonal investigations are needed?’, etc. Likewise, under Diabetic foot, following the presentation of a case scenario, several questions were asked, including, ‘Description of clinical findings’, ‘Role of probe to bone (PTB) test’, ‘How to grade the ulcer’, ‘When to suspect infected ulcer and how to classify it’, ‘What to ask the patient’, ‘What is at risk foot’, ‘Importance of knowing prior treatment history,’ ‘Importance of ABI in patients with diabetes’ and many more. A case of excessive height gain since childhood in a 33-year-old male was shared followed by a question and answer session with questions like ‘Causes of familial acromegaly’, When to suspect FIPA or XLAG associated acromegaly’, ‘What to elicit in history,’ ‘Why is headache a predominant complaint in acromegaly’, ‘Why is the patient having acanthosis nigricans at young age’, ‘Why is there increased sweating and seborrhea in the patient’, etc. The attendees had an active participation in the interaction and keenly answered all the questions put to them.
