  1. Diabesity is a growing worldwide epidemic with an enormous impact on morbidity and mortality.
  2. Presence of obesity in a diabetic patient can hinder both diabetes control and obesity management.
  3. Weight reduction through dietary interventions, exercise and pharmacologic therapy is the first and long-lasting step in the management of diabesity.
  4. Bariatric/metabolic surgery may be indicated in selected cases.
  5. Multidisciplinary approach is the most successful way to manage both conditions.
