Sodium profiling limits osmotic changes in the intravascular fluid and attempts to improve intradialytic hypotension and events. A final neutral balance is essential to obtain maximum benefit. Mirrored profiles offer stability. Biofeedback modules using dialysate and ultrafiltrate conductivity measurements offer more accurate monitoring and treatment. The OCM allows such monitoring albeit manual calculations. Conflicting results of sodium profiling have been obtained in acute kidney injury (AKI).
