  • Failure:
  1. Initial days 1972-1975 - Dissertation for MD “Jejunal biopsy in malabsorption syndrome”: Did not have any question in mind and could not make out what to say after several jejunal biopsies I could not interpret.
  2. Attempted to develop a pig model of 5/6 nephrectomy (Laparoscopic nephrectomy + partial angioembolization contralaterally) to get a new model for study of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH).
  • Success:
  1. Serum catalytic iron in heart and kidney disease;
  2. Modified catalytic iron assay - The %CV of intra- and inter-assay measurement for serum was 3.48%, 1.22% and for urine was 15.75%, 3.44%;
  3. Serum catalytic iron as a novel biomarker of vascular injury in acute coronary syndromes.
  • Research is possible for everyone provided:
  1. Sufficiently motivated by question
  2. Not getting discouraged by failures and circumstances
  3. Hard work
  4. Managing time from clinical duties
  5. Funding.
