  • Only one genotype of T. mentagrophytes found in all strains in all Indian centers!
  • All isolates of T. mentagrophytes without a single exception belong to this group - “Indian genotype”.
  • Despite identifying a novel genotype of T. mentagrophytes in India, confusion still persists in appreciating taxonomy-2017.
  • Transmission seems to occur exclusively amongst human beings.
  • So far, no evidence to be occurring from animals like cattle, dogs, cats, rodents, etc.
  • There are hardly any “treatment naïve cases” presented as most have applied something/many have additionally taken erratic oral treatment.
  • There is an urgent need:

o  To study the pathogenicity of novel genotype

o  Virulence factors including marker candidate genes and the proteases

o  Immune response of the host

o  Possible impact of topical corticosteroids (TCs) containing fixed-dose combinations (FDCs) on the epidemiologic shift of the species.

o  Response of the current subspecies to various antifungals.
