The Board of Governors in Supersession of Medical Council of India are considering to include the following provisions in the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997:-

“All the candidates pursuing compulsory rotating internship at the institution from which MBBS course was completed, shall be paid stipend on par with the stipend being paid to the interns of the State Govt. Medical Institution / Central Government Medical Institution in the State / Union Territory where the institution is located.”

This information dated 25.1.19 is in public domain and is available on Medical Council of India website.

The Board of Governors has asked for comments / suggestions within 15 days on the proposed amendment.

We welcome this proposal and view it as a positive step toward achieving pay parity and uniform pay scale for all doctors across the country.

Same work - Same pay - Pay parity has been one of the demands of the Indian Medical Association
