SHILLONG: Doctors in Shillong Civil Hospital have removed a toothbrush from a 50-year-old womans stomach without carrying out surgery. The woman, a resident of Lower Mawprem, had no discomfort after swallowing the toothbrush while cleaning her teeth in January. However, her daughter later insisted on consulting a doctor as a precautionary measure.Dr. Isaac Syiem stated that this was the first such case in Shillong and it was quite surprising for all of them. An endoscope was used and the brush was successfully pulled out through her mouth. No surgery was required. She was perfectly fine after the removal of the brush and was discharged from the hospital after half an hour.He added that there were possibilities that the situation could have turned worse if she would not have sought medical attention.
