COIMBATORE: Parents of a two-year-old baby have accused a government hospital in Coimbatore of transfusing HIV positive blood to the baby. The hospital authorities have; however, denied the claim.

The parents alleged that the infected blood was transfused into the baby while she was being treated at the hospital last year. The childs father said that she was admitted in the hospital last year in July and was discharged after transfusion. She developed complications later and tests showed her to be HIV positive.

The hospital has refuted the allegation and said that it is ready for any inquiry.

Dr Asokan, Dean, Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital dismissed the accusation. Dr Asokan said that she could have been infected after treatment at some other hospital. He added that they had provided all medical records related to her. They expect state government officials to conduct an inquiry and are ready for it.

Coimbatore Human Rights Forum (CHRF) received a complaint in this regard and has demanded action.

VP Sarathy, Chairman, CHRF said that the child’s father gave them a complaint. They have examined the medical records and they appear to be fabricated in order to protect the erring doctors. The childs father has submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector who has assured swift action in this matter. (ANI)
