Sleeve gastrectomy safer option in obese Crohn's disease patients

In patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), particularly Crohn’s disease (CD), sleeve gastrectomy may be the safer surgery, suggests a study reported online Feb. 21, 2019 in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. In CD patients, Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) was associated with a significantly greater number of patients with increased IBD-medication requirements. SG led to less weight loss but had a lower rate of severe complications compared to RYGB.
