An application has been developed for the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) to keep a record of registered doctors in the state. The app helps to eliminate fake doctors who are not registered with the council but still practice as registered practitioners.

Data of all the registered medical practitioners with the council is available on the mobile application and the registration details of the doctors can be checked. While keeping a check on the problem of fake doctors, complaints can also be filed to MMC directly through the application.

The application is available on Google Play Store with all the updated details of registered medical practitioners. Dr Shivkumar Utture, president of MMC, said that citizens can search the name, registration number or registration date of any doctor. There is an easy search function and details of all the doctors with the same name will be shown.

If people come across a doctor not registered with the council, they can file a complaint directly through the application. Complaints against doctors due to other reasons can also be made through the app itself.

Utture added that the app will also help doctors to complete their registration and its renewal with just one click. They can upload their documents through the application. New notifications and recent decisions of the council will also be made available on the application.

Dr Dilip Sarda, a member of MMC, said that a certificate of good standing is required by the doctors going abroad for advanced courses or conferences. This certificate will be issued through the mobile app. The number of credit points of a registered doctor will be available for the council members on the app. The doctors will be able to know how much credit points they have to score along with the number of conferences they have to attend.

Sarda further mentioned that the facility of Continuous Medical Education (CME) has been made available on the application; however, it has a few limitations. Doctors need a total of 30 credit points from CMEs but cannot score the entire points online. A maximum of ten credit points can be scored through the online CME.

Sarda added that the application is new, so, some problems may appear. The app will be updated based on the feedback received.
