Two doctors of a private clinic at Palam Vihar Extension have been booked for allegedly causing death by negligence, following the death of a mother and her newborn.

Pushkar, a resident of Ashok Vihar, complained that his wife Mamta was admitted to the clinic at 10am on Saturday. She gave birth to a baby in the afternoon. The doctors said that the baby was stillborn. Pushkar mentioned that his wife had suffered excessive bleeding and the doctors asked them to go to a bigger hospital. However, when they reached there, they were not given admission.

Pushkar stated that when they went back to the Palam Vihar clinic, the doctors started treating his wife despite the fact that they did not have the appropriate medical equipment. They insisted on treating her there and went on with the same for about an hour while Pushkar kept asking that his wife be referred to another hospital. Finally, they let them go to the Civil Hospital in Civil Lines but Mamta died on the way. Pushkar said that if the clinic had stated that they could not treat his wife earlier, they could have gone to another hospital on time.

One of the suspected doctors denied the allegations and said that the patient didn’t come to them after being referred to another hospital. They were on their way to the Civil Hospital when the patient died.

Satpal Singh, sub-inspector, Sector 5 police station, said that an FIR has been filed under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
