Pune: A 68-year-old woman doctor was booked for causing death by negligence of a 25-year-old man in October last year after experts from Sassoon General Hospital held that there was negligence in the way the adverse reaction after the administration of an injection was handled.

Ashish Rahul Alhat was brought to the doctor’s clinic at Gol Market with complaint of stomach pain. The doctor administered an injection. Chaya Kamble, sub-inspector, Khadki police, stated that the patient fainted in the clinic and was declared dead when brought to a government hospital.

Ashish’s mother, Manisha Alhat, lodged the complaint against the doctor. An FIR has been registered under Section 304A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

Manisha mentioned that on the morning of October 5, Ashish told her about severe stomach pain. She took him to the doctor’s clinic where the lady doctor examined him and told that the pain was due to acidity. She prescribed some injection and told Manisha to get it from a pharmacy.

Ashish started frothing, turned blue and fainted. The doctor told Manisha to shift him to a hospital. She took him to the Cantonment Hospital in Khadki.

The doctors there told Manisha that her son had passed away. She went to the Sassoon Hospital for a post-mortem and lodged a complaint against the doctor with the Khadki police.

A doctor from Sassoon Hospital’s expert committee said that the doctor did not take immediate steps to handle the adverse reactions medically. The expert stated that it is a case of medical negligence.
