Himachal doctor gets AACE Service Award

SHIMLA: Dr Jatinder Kumar Mokta, Professor of Medicine at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, received the AACE Service Award for promotion of endocrine health 2019 on April 25 at Los Angeles, USA. He has become the first Indian doctor as well as the first non-American doctor to get this award. 

Last year, Dr Mokta received the American College of Physicians Oscar Award for his community service in the field of Medicine.

The award was presented to him by the President of the American College of Endocrinology.

Mokta comes from village Kairo, tehsil Jubbal of Shimla. He attributed his awards to his family members for their encouragement and cooperation, his parents, and teachers and dedicated his awards to his parents.

He said that it was a great moment when he was introduced to more than 500 doctors from across the globe and the name of Shimla and Himachal Pradesh was announced. He added that his passion and field work in the field of Endocrinology at large, and diabetes, in particular, has been recognized with this award. Over the last three years, he has published over 15 original papers in different National journals, out of which 10 were in the field of diabetes, adrenal glands, pituitary gland and vitamin D, he stated.

In 2018 and 2019, his papers on adrenal gland tuberculosis and muscle weakness in vitamin D were awarded as the second best papers at National level.

Two different organizations of America have recognized Dr Mokta’s work in creating awareness among rural people of the state. (TNN)
