Soon after a day, two doctors who were arrested in a kidney racket, the district collector K Bhaskar on Friday appointed a three-member committee to investigation the kidney racket. The team will visit other private hospitals in the city, where kidney surgeries have reportedly been performed.

On May 8, the city police arrested two doctors for their alleged role in an organ transplant racket, about 10 months ago. The incident, which took place in a private hospital near Beach Road, came to light after the complainant and organ donor approached the police alleging that he was cheated and not paid the promised money. The scam has raised suspicions over organ transplantations performed earlier in other private hospitals.

District collector K Bhaskar said that the three-member committee comprising district medical and health officer, district co-ordinator of hospital services (DCHS) and superintendent of King George Hospital (KGH) will probe the kidney scam and will submit a detailed report to the district administration and police department.

K Bhaskar also stated that several patients are being treated at the private hospital, where the kidney racket took place and they will not take any immediate action against it as the patients will suffer.

DGP of Andhra Pradesh, RP Thakur said that they will arrest all the accused in the case and take strict action against those involved in such kidney rackets, once the three member committee complete their survey and submit the report.

In the meantime, M Manjunath (34), an Ayurveda doctor from Bengaluru and D Prabhakar (35), a nephrologist from a Visakhapatnam- based private hospital were arrested. The other accused, patient BS Prabhakar and his brother BS Venkatesh are not yet arrested.
