Resident doctors at North Delhi’s Bara Hindu Rao Hospital have called a complete strike from Monday on the grounds of non-payment of timely salaries. These doctors have already been on partial strike for the past two days. This move will affect health services as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation-run facility is one of the busiest hospitals in the city, with the healthcare teams attending to thousands of patients every day.

The 500 senior residents, junior residents and interns will be on strike, indirectly supported by nurses and other staff members as their salaries are also delayed. As per sources from North MCD, salary status of doctors in other four hospitals run by the corporation-Maharishi Valmiki Infectious Diseases (MVID, Kasturba Gandhi, Girdhari Lal and Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine & Tuberculosis is also the same.

Doctors also alleged that the administration is trying to sabotage their strike by threatening that their theses will not be signed. When asked about this issue, a senior official from North civic body claimed that files regarding funds are pending with the Delhi government. Delhi government officials and the hospital’s medical superintendent did not comment on the issue.
