The parents of a nine-year-old rape survivor of Uttarakhand have alleged that their daughter was discharged without proper treatment from a hospital and was made to travel with the accused person in a police vehicle to record her statement before the magistrate.

The girl hails from Tehri district and was allegedly raped in Nainbagh area on May 30. The Circle Officer (CO) of the area named Uttam Singh was suspended on charges of negligence of duty.

The victim was admitted to Doon Medical College and Hospital. Her parents alleged that their daughter was discharged from the hospital without proper treatment and recovery. Her parents also stated that their daughter could not give her statement properly as her condition worsened after she was made to travel for four hours with the accused.

In the meantime, Women and Child Development Minister, Rekha Arya expressed deep concern over the way the case has been handled. She said that they will not spare the doctors, who had discharged the victim without proper treatment. Strict action will be taken against the police officers too. She also mentioned that they have called the counsellors to counsel the victim to make her mentally and physically fit. The minister had also announced financial assistance of Rs 7 lakh to the victim.

Uttarakhand Child Commission has asked the Tehri District Magistrate (DM) to conduct a magisterial inquiry into this matter. The girl was again admitted to a hospital for further treatment as the case was reported to the administration.

Dr Chitra Joshi said that the girl is now stable. There was some problem due to an infection. One report is still awaited and if everything comes normal, then they will discharge her.
