In another tale of medical negligence, doctors of a private hospital near Puliyakulam have been accused of leaving a cotton swab inside a patient’s abdomen during a surgery. According to the husband of the patient, this had happened when his wife visited the hospital for a hysterectomy.

A Ganeshan (37) submitted a petition to the Collector on 10th June, 2019 stating that his wife had her uterus removed in November 2018 at a private hospital in Puliyakulam and spent as much as INR 1 Lakh. Few months later, his wife experienced pain in her abdomen and went to ESI Hospital for treatment. Following a scan, the doctors there discovered the presence of a foreign object in her abdomen which later on turned out to be a cotton swab.

The swab was removed from the patient at the ESI Hospital; however she is still under critical care at Stanley Hospital. The private hospital has not taken heed of his complaint and misbehaved with him when he went there accusing them of improper treatment.
