The uproar regarding the nationwide strike by doctors hasn’t even died down yet, when news of doctors and nurses being allegedly beaten up by a patient in a Mumbai hospital has surfaced.

The incident of fresh violence has triggered a flash strike in Kandivali’s Shatabdi Hospital early Thursday morning. The alleged assault occurred around 6:00 AM, the out-patient departments and emergency sections were emptied of patients by the striking staff, which shut the hospital down for over four hours. Doctors and nurses claimed they were assaulted by a ‘drunken’ woman patient, brought to the hospital by the police.

According to the hospital staff, the accused was admitted to the hospital by the cops from Bangur Nagar Police Station in the early hours of Thursday. The woman was due for a medical check-up, but due to unavailability of the doctor, she lost control after waiting and started beating nurses, doctors and other staff members, hurting at least 5 people.

The hospital has initiated an internal investigation and the chief medical superintendent has said that the hospital will determine the plan of action once the primary investigation is over.
