On Thursday, a team of officials from Patiala health department along with the health team from Chandigarh had conducted raid over a private hospital for allegedly conducting sex determination tests at their hospital’s ultrasound centre.

The private hospital is a multi-speciality hospital in Samana town of Patiala district where the team from Chandigarh had raided along with the officials of the health department in Patiala.

Senior Medical Officers from Patran, Samana, Shutrana, Tripuri blocks, District Family Planning Officer and Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr. Harish Malhotra was part of the health team from Chandigarh that conducted this raid.

Dr. Harish Malhotra claimed that the officials of a private firm Speed Network which is hired by the state government to check the misuse of ultrasound machines across the state had conducted the raids. The doctors and the police could not arrest any of the accused involved in this case as they managed to escape.

The Samana police have booked four persons for violations of PNDT act by allegedly conducting sex determination at their centre. Two out of the four accused are residents of Sangrur district who were running the centre at Samana town of Patiala district.

The case has been registered on the complaint of Patiala civil surgeon at City Samana police station but none of the accused is arrested in the case so far.
