In Bengal, 1.5 kg jewellery and coins were removed from a woman's stomach

On Wednesday, a doctor removed over 1.5 kg jewellery and coins from the stomach of a mentally unstable woman at a government hospital in West Bengals Birbhum district.

Siddharatha Biswas, the head of the surgery department in the Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital, said that ninety coins in the denomination of Rs. 5 and Rs. 10 and ornaments like chains, nose rings, earrings, bangles, anklets, wrist bands and watches were found from the stomach of the 26-year-old woman.

The ornaments were mainly made of copper and brass but some golden jewellery was also found. The womans mother also noticed that ornaments were disappearing from their home. She said that her daughter is mentally unsound and for the past few days she used to vomit every time after having a meal. She also said that her daughter got the coins from her brothers shop. Whenever they questioned her, she used to start crying.

They also kept a watch on her but in some way she managed to swallow all these materials. She wasn’t well for the past two months and was taken to various private doctors. She was on medication also but without any effect.

Soon after, the woman was taken to the hospital, where doctors conducted various tests on her for a week and operated her on Wednesday.
