Father of a two-month-old baby has suspected that the tip of the infant’s thumb had been clipped by a junior doctor during a medical procedure. Following this, the hospital superintendent sought a report from the facility’s pediatrics department.

The baby was admitted to the BMCH with a complaint of loose motion on Sunday. On Thursday Situ Sheikh, a resident of Simulia village in Purba Bardhaman district, lodged a written complaint to the Superintendent of Burdwan Medical College and Hospital (BMCH), Prabir Sengupta. In his complaint, Situ Sheikh said that, on Tuesday a junior doctor was asked to make the saline channel and he snipped the tip of the baby’s right hand thumb with half of the nail cutting the bandage with a scissor.

He said that the hospital authorities should take right action against the doctor and such incident should not be repeated to any other baby.

The BMCH superintendent said that after getting the complaint, he had sought a detailed report from the head of the pediatrics department, who informed him that the baby had certainly suffered a cut on his finger.

Sengupta said that surgeons examined the child and mentioned that he has suffered a cut on the upper part of his thumb, but the finger, with portion of the nail was not snipped. The matter has been now fixed with the patient’s family.
