Tailored communications for obesity prevention in pediatric primary care.

A new study published in Health Education Research evaluated the feasibility of a theory based tailored communication intervention for obesity prevention Team Up for Health delivered during a well child visit. In this two armed randomized controlled trial parents of children aged from 4 to 10 years were enrolled who were due for a well child visit at a pediatric primary care clinic. Parents were randomized to either the immediate condition parent and pediatrician received the tailored report at the well child visit or the delayed condition parent received the report at the end of the study . Parents completed assessments at baseline 48 h and at the 4 week follow up. The findings revealed high rates of measurement 85 89 acceptability and 80 implementation of the intervention. Thus it was concluded that Team Up for Health was feasible. It was stated that a larger study is necessary to evaluate its efficacy.
