On Sunday, the Central government-run hospital All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) began an internal enquiry after a day of major fire break out in the complex.The inquiry is been carried out to know the cause of disaster and to strengthen anti-fire measures in the complex.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan examined the situation at AIIMS along with the hospital Director and senior faculty members. The hospital said in a statement that the fire which is suspected that itmight have started from the microbiology laboratory area has affected few laboratories and office areas. The hospital area was not affected by the fire and there were no casualty. As a preventive measure, AIIMS administration had shifted patients from AB wing to other areas of the hospital and these patients have been now shifted back to their respective wards. The statement also said that the emergency department and emergency laboratories of the hospital are fully functional.

The statement further said that AIIMS has a regular fire prevention system and fire personnel are deployed round the clock with firefighting safety systems which are regularly tested including clearance of fire exits and corridors. Awareness of firefighting systems among staff is also conducted regularly.
