The operationalwork of the much-awaited super-speciality wing at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) is yet again in a midpoint as there is no progress in the sanction of required posts for the new block.

GMCH dean Kanan Yelikar said that the building of the super-speciality wing is ready but the posts are not available and hence the facility cannot become operational. A total of 1400 posts have been proposed for the new wing which are to be approved in three phases. Also, 465 posts need approval in the first phase for the wing to start functioning.

When inquired about the development in the post creation, Yelikar said that it is a huge and prestigious project which involves the approval of authorities at the state and the central level. The GMCH will make the next move under the guidance of the authorities concerned.

The super-speciality wing with eight departments cannot provide services soon. The facility was expected to begin functioning a year ago but due to the disturbing delay in approvals of the state government, the crucial healthcare project has been facing obstructions.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), the super-speciality block was sanctioned at GMCH Aurangabad. Aurangabad is one of the thirty-nine locations where the super-speciality blocks were approved under PMSSY.

Before, the commissioning of the super-speciality wing was held due to power and water supply issues. Though, the state government, in July had approved funds for the installation of electricity sub-station which paved the way for its electrification. The water supply issue was also resolved after discussions between the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and GMCH administration.
