On Saturday 7th September, a doctor was mercilessly beaten by a mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district as he failed to save life of a woman who was admitted in the hospital on Friday 6th September, 2 days after delivering a baby at her home.

As per an Amar Ujala report, Gulshan, the 30-year-old wife of Naeem Baig, gave birth to a child at their home in Haridaspur village on Wednesday 4th September. But, on Friday 6th September, Gulshan’s condition started deteriorating so her husband took her to Leelawati General Hospital in the village. Dr Manoj from the hospital sent her blood sample for a test in a local laboratory.

The test report showed that haemoglobin level in Gulshan’s blood had fallen to a dangerous 3.9, subsequently Dr Manoj advised blood transfusion for which she was admitted in the hospital on Friday. But, during the blood transfusion process, Gulshan’s condition started deteriorating and she died at 11am on Saturday.

On hearing news of her death, Naeem’s family and hundreds of other villagers arrived at the hospital and started creating a commotion. They alleged that Gulshan died due to infusion of wrong group of blood and therefore held Dr Manoj as captive. Afterwards, they dragged him to the road and started thrashing him mercilessly.

The police arrived at the spot and tried to save Dr Manoj by putting him into their vehicle. But, the mob was so frantic that they shamelessly dragged Dr Manoj from the police vehicle and started beating him again.

Seeing the severity of the situation, the police had to call more personnel from other police stations. Soon the situation was in control and both the parties were taken to the police station. They reached an agreement after four hours of discussions.
