Cholecystectomy done before weight loss surgery reduces complications in obese patients

A study published online October 18 2017 in the British Journal of Surgery has suggested that cholecystectomy should be performed before not during or after the weight loss Roux en Y gastric bypass surgery. A higher aggregate complication risk was observed when cholecystectomy was performed after RYGB rather than before and also when both surgeries were done at the same time.
