Three people lose vision following cataract surgery in MP's Chhindwara

On Wednesday,three people, who had underwent cataract surgery at the district hospital in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh claimed to have lost their vision.

The District Magistrate Shrinivas Sharma communicated that the substandard cataract surgeries will soon be investigated by the medical department of the hospital. He said that on 25th September, four people underwent surgery out of them, three were unable to see. Thisincident will be investigated by a team of doctors.

The patients are sent to Bhopal for advanced treatment. Also, the Kamal Nath government might send them to Sankara Nethralaya hospital if their condition remains the same.

In cataract surgery, the cloudy lens, which is often caused due to old age, is removed and replaced with an artificial lens (called an intraocular lens) to restore clear vision. Modern cataract procedures involves the use of a high-frequency ultrasound device that breaks up the cloudy lens into small pieces, which are gently removed from the eye with the help of suction.
