Meghalaya's female doctor helped pregnant patient to reach hospital by driving ambulance

A doctor named Dr Balnamchi Sangma from West Garo Hills district in Meghalaya drove an ambulance to help one of her patients to reach a nearby hospital.

Dr Sangma needed to shift one of her patients who was pregnant to a nearby hospital. But when she came to know that both the drivers of ambulance were on leave, she herself drove the ambulance 36 Km to shift the patient to Maternity and Child Hospital (MCH) in Tura.

Amazed by her noble act, by stander came to stand still and captured her on their cell phones while driving. After reaching the maternity care, people were shocked to see a woman driving an ambulance.

No sooner her image of driving an ambulance went viral on social media, netizen showered praises for her Clarifying the need for an urgent shift, Sangma said that the patient was going into labour and doctors were clueless about the condition of the infant as the patient had refused sonography test. Therefore, it was decided by the doctors to shift her to MCH.

Dr Sangma told East Mojo that the same day, employees of 108 services, a state ambulance service, was on strike and their driver was on casual leave. She also said that as the patient’s family was poor, she could not ask them to arrange for a vehicle. Hence, without any options left, she herself decided to shift the patient.

She further said that it is a high time that people should come out of their comfort zone and do a little act of kindness towards the society. Even though coming out of comfort zone seems difficult but giving it a try won’t be hard.
