Dengue deaths climbs to five this year in Pune

Three more people, including an 11-year- old girl from Aundh, succumbed to dengue fever induced complications at different hospitals in the past two weeks, which took the number of casualties in the city to five in the last one-and-a-half-month this year.

The Aundh girl, a Class VI student,succumbed to dengue fever associated complications at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital on September 20. She also had severely low platelet count and was tested positive for dengue fever.

A 32-year-old man from Sadesatranali in Hadapsar died at Noble Hospital on September 29. His relative said that he was not suffering from any medical condition and was a fitness enthusiast and health conscious. A doctor from Noble Hospital said he was tested positive for dengue and took treatment from a neighborhood medical practitioner and was rushed to the hospital after his condition worsened.

One moreperson, a 24-year-old woman, a resident of Kothrud, also fell victim to the complications at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital on September 13. She too was tested positive for dengue antigen test (NS1).

In September, the city had recorded 1,957 dengue cases from private hospitals (1,630 cases) and government designated sentinel centers (327 cases). There were almost 1,244 cases registered in August.
