Raid on private clinic in Panchkula for conducting sex test

A private clinic in Panchkula, was raided by a team of health department for allegedly committing sex determination tests at Swastika Vihar, Mansa Devi Complex.

Doctors said violations of PNDT (Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques), MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) and Drug and Cosmetic Act were discovered at the ‘Siddharth Clinic’ which is headed by Dr Shyam Sunder.

Dr Parvinderjit Singh, nodal officer, PNDT, said that many of the patient’s forms were found incomplete or signed by operators and doctor. List of patients were also partially filled.The display board of the clinic stated ‘infertility, gynecology and ultrasound’ but it wasn’t approved by the authorities.

The team also found medicines which were used to perform sperm washing, a procedure for which they did not had any permission. The team detected a huge quantity of MTP kits. Later, the clinic was sealed and cops were called.

Police registered a case under sections5, 6, 29, 3, 4, 18, 3A of PC, PNDT and MTP Act, rule 8, 18/27 of Drug and Cosmetic Actand under sections 415 (cheating) and 417 (punishment for cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Mansa Devi Complex police station.

On 18th February, the health department had caught a quack after sending a decoy patient at his fake health center in Sector 4. The quack was offering medicines which claimed thatit would help in delivering a male child. The quack was booked under the PNDT Act.

On 5th July 5, 2016, a couple was arrested for allegedly carrying out abortions illegally after a joint raid by a team of health department of Panchkula and Chandigarh in Mauli Jagran.
