Indian doctor appointed as a head of the oncology department in US

On Tuesday, Jame Abraham has been appointed as the head of the Hematology/Medical Oncology Department at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, US.

Abraham - M.D., F.A.C.P, holds a medical degree from Calicut Medical College in Kerala and is very well known in India. He had received an award from former President Pratibha Patil in 2010 for his contribution to cancer care.

At present, he is serving as the director of the Breast Oncology Programme at Taussig Cancer Institute and co-director of the Cleveland Clinic Comprehensive Breast Cancer Programme and also a professor of medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.

Abraham said that he is looking forward to build upon Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institutes position as a leader in hematology and medical oncology that can deliver outstanding, compassionate patient care and innovative research.

Dr. Abraham has published and presented more than 200 papers, as the national principal investigator of multiple breast cancer clinical trials. He is also the founding editor of the Bethesda Handbook of Oncology (Wolter Kluwer), which is one of the best-selling oncology textbooks in the world.

Brian Bolwell, M.D., chairman of Taussig Cancer Institute said that for successful leading the Hematology/Medical Oncology Department, it requires a leader who excels at empathy, fosters a culture of teamwork, demonstrates emotional intelligence and believes in the vision of the institute. Dr. Abraham represents all these qualities and has shown a passion for department and caregiver development, and upliftingtheir national reputation.

Cleveland Clinic is a non-profit multi-specialty academic medical center which incorporates clinical and hospital care with research and education.
