On Wednesday, emergency services at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital were interrupted for an hour after a junior doctor was assaulted by kin of a patient.

Doctors protested against the assault and have demanded strict action against the accused. Shortly, police rushed to the spot and the situation got under control.

The cause of the argument between the accused and the doctor was issuing of outdoor patient (OPD) ticket. According to the source, before anyone could understand anything, the doctor was allegedly assaulted. Enraged with this incident, junior doctors protested and emergency services were unavailable for nearly an hour. Never the less, doctors didn’t call any strike and services got back to normal.

A few months ago, junior doctors at NRS hospital were also attacked which had caused a week-long strike by doctors in the state. The strike was called off after CM Mamata Banerjee’s promise to improve the doctor’s safety and security.
