In the last three months of 2019, as many as 269 infants had died at a government hospital in Rajkot with the highest number of deaths being recorded in December. Almost 87 and 71 children died at Rajkot Civil Hospital in October and November respectively and the infant deaths in December mounted at 111, according to Manish Mehta, the hospitals head.

The official blamed the deaths to the shortage of facilities for correctly treating children at the hospital. Mehta said that they do not have sufficient facilities to treat the number of patients received. Due to this situation, the government has started the construction of a new hospital with 500 beds.

In Vadodara, chief minister Vijay Rupani has denied answering to the reporters question on the deaths of infants in the government hospital.
