A city-based hospital in Vadodara has allegedly botched up medical reports of kidney patients who comes to the hospital for dialysis, stating them to be HIV positive.

Sources said that reports of five patients who get their dialysis done regularly at the hospital which is located on Harni-Warasiya Road were shown as HIV positive in December. All the patients arefrom poor financial backgrounds and have lodged their complaints on ‘MA’ scheme’s toll number.

The MA scheme – a health insurance initiative by the state government that was introduced so as the poor families could benefit the best medical treatment at private hospitals.

A two-member officials’ team from Gandhinagar visited the hospital and instructed it to clean up its dialysis machinery and install fresh equipment after receiving the complaints. Remarkably, as that was under way, medical reports issued by the hospital for 14 other dialysis patients’ showed them as HIV positive, according to sources.

Hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Deepak Desai admitted that it was “human error” in the patient’s medical reports but has been corrected immediately. He further said that it was not an intentional error. On the instructions received from the team of officials they have taken appropriate steps accordingly.
