41 year-old Preeti Maheshwari shifted to China in 2017 for better career opportunity. She is the first Indian to have diagnosed with novel coronavirus by a hospital in China. Currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at Shekou Hospital in Shenzhen, Preeti has started showing signs of recovery.

A primary art school teacher in an International school of science and technology in Shenzhen, and a mother of two daughters, Preeti is suffering from coronavirus Pneumonia, Type 1 respiratory failure, Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS) and septic shock.

As per information from social media, she required 10 lakh Chinese Yuhan, equivalent to INR 1 crore in Indian currency. A healthcare crowdfunding platform, ImpactGuru.com was used, people came forward to help and INR 36.72 Lakh was raised within a span of 10 days.

Her doctors have informed that her lungs have started showing signs of recovery, though she still continues to be on life support and critical care treatments. However, she is off Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine and is conscious. She is currently on a ventilator, and is being supported by external oxygen and dialysis with continued blood purification. We hope that she recovers soon and becomes perfectly healthy.
