20th Feb: Coronavirus continues to spread in China; however, it appears to be slowing. Authorities, on Wednesday, reported less than 2,000 new cases for the second straight day. Cases outside China continue to rise though.

Soon after reporting its first two coronavirus cases, Iran reported two deaths. Deaths in mainland China have risen to 2,004; Hong Kong has now reported a second death.

There have been 79 new cases on the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan. Overall, 621 infected people have been identified among the 3,011 passengers and crew members tested (21% infection rate) from a total of 3,711 people onboard.

So, “It could be unwise for anybody in China, or outside China, to be complacent that this is coming under control at this point in time,” said the chief of virology at the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Iwata, an infectious disease expert, said that he visited the ship in order to advise public health officials on the ways to prevent further spread of infection. He was shocked at what he saw and shared his findings on YouTube. Dr. Iwata said that Health ministry officials, crew members and psychiatrists ate together, with some being in full protective gear and others not, which was a violation of the requisite procedures. The authorities had taken only half measures and did not protect the passengers and crew members on the ship, he further stated.

So, the take home message is the virus is highly infectious and can infect over 20% of cases if they live together without proper precautions. It is not only an air droplet infection but it also passes through contact from the surfaces.

Possible future Bollywood or Hollywood Movies:

  1. Diamond Princess
  2. COVID Airlift
  3. Wuhan
  4. Liu Zhiming, director of the Wuchang hospital
  5. Li Wenliang, The whistle blower
