Indian girl Divyasri, the only child of her parents, who was suffering from heart and pulmonary blood pressure problems, died at theage of six. Her parents are at great comfort in the fact that her short life did not go futile but she had donated her organs to save three lives in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Divyasri’s one kidney is transplanted in Dubai and another kidney in Abu Dhabi, whereas the liver is transplanted in Saudi Arabia. With immense joy, pride, and gratitude, Divyasri’s parents met the family of the child Adam, who had got a kidney from the child. Both the families spent emotional moments reflecting the sacrifice of the small child for giving a better life to others.

Divyasri was suffering from heart and pulmonary blood pressure problems. Her mother Kirti and father Aruna Kumar were very keen on registering in the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s Hayat App for Organ Donation to give a ray of hope to several patients on the waiting lists. They saw their daughter through the child Adam.

Her mother said that her daughter Divyasri, who had a habit to give and was always willing to give money she had to workers on the street. At times, she took money from her mother’s purse to give it to others, even though she was not able to differentiate between Dhs10 and Dhs100. It was felt as she was born only to donate and give others a better life. The child continued to give even after she passed away and gave a better life to three people.

Adam, 7 year old boy received a kidney from Divyasri. He used to visit Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital 3 to 4 times a week and spend around 3 - 5 hours on the dialysis machine. This made him miss his regular school. Now he has been given a kidney, his life changed forever. He is enrolled in school and is aware of the child who gave him her kidney for his new life.

Aruna Kumar, Divyasri’s father, said that doctors at Sheikh Khalifa Hospital had explained to them about the importance of the postmortem organ donation programme and how it can save and change others’ lives.

Kirti said that a quick decision had to be taken to enable doctors to transplant the organs that remain good for transplantation only for a certain period of time. The idea was strange but they came to the conclusion that their decision might give a chance for a better life to a number of generations. The person who gets the organ will grow up, get married and have their own children. This way their daughter will make a difference in his life and reducetheir agony over her loss. Adams mother also confirmed that his life changed significantly, as he has been on the waiting list for almost 4 years.

Dr. Farhad Kheradmand Janahi, Assistant Professor in Surgery at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, also confirmed that the lives of three people could be saved adding that a kidney was transplanted in Dubai and another kidney in Abu Dhabi, whereas the liver was transplanted in Saudi Arabia.
