4th coronavirus victim in India is a Punjab man, total 54 cases reported in last 2 days

On Thursday, India recorded its 4th death due to coronavirus infection as fresh cases rose in the country, with more than 50 confirmed cases recorded in the last 2 days. The 4th coronavirus victim was a 70 year old man from Punjab, with a travel history of 2 weeks to Germany via Italy. He was a native of Punjab’s Nawanshahr district and was suffering from hypertension and diabetes. Test reports of his samples confirmed that he had COVID-19.

After the man’s samples confirmed the coronavirus, authorities have completely blocked his village. Nawanshahr civil surgeon Dr Rajinder Bhatia said that they have quarantined around 56 villagers, which includes 18 from his family and relatives who came in close contact with him. Also those quarantined include the doctor, nurse and ward body who had attended him. The patient reported typical symptoms of heart attack with chest pain and died in 25 minutes.

27 new cases were reported on Thursday from 14 states in India, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 198. There has been an increase in the number of new cases in the last 2 days, with 54 cases being reported from the states. Gujarat and Chhattisgarh has reported their first cases on Thursday.

A 32 year old man in Rajkot and a 21-year-old woman in Surat are tested positive for the COVID-19. The principal secretary of health, Jayanti Ravi said that the Rajkot man landed in Mumbai from Mecca on 7th March along with 10 other people and reached the city by Bandra-Jamnagar Saurashtra Janta Express on 8th March. 16 people who were in close contact with him that includes his relatives, are quarantined at a special facility in the city.

21 year old girl in Gujarat landed in Mumbai from London on 13th March and reached Surat on 14th March. She was studying in London and was admitted in the isolation ward of the New Civil Hospital on 16th March after complaining of severe cough, fever and cold.

Prohibitory orders were imposed in Surat on Thursday under Section 144 of CrPC banning gathering of 4 or more people in public places.

Maharashtra continues to top the total list with 48 confirmed cases. The 3 new cases reported from the state include a 22-year-old woman with a travel history to the UK, a 49-year-old woman from Ulhasnagar with a travel history to Dubai and a 51-year-old from Ahmednagar who had a travel history to Dubai with his wife. His wife has been tested negative. State health minister Rajesh Tope said that 2 coronavirus patients are critical and on ventilator support whereas other patients were stable.

Kerala has the 2nd highest coronavirus cases with total count of 28 while UP ranks 3rd with 19 cases.
