130 new COVID-19 cases reported in a single day in India

On Sunday, India’s coronavirus count had crossed the 1,000 mark, with states reporting almost 130 fresh cases, which is the highest for a single day till now. Delhi had also seen a major rise of 23 new cases and Maharashtra confirmed 2 deaths from COVID-19.

Delhi’s single-day coronavirus count has crossed into double digits for the first time, said the health authorities.

Sunday was the third following day as the count of new cases had crossed 100, showing that the COVID-19 infection was rapidly spreading. States have confirmed 1,122 coronavirus cases out of which 30 people had died. The Union health ministry has reported around 1024 cases and 27 deaths from coronavirus.

Maharashtra, has the highest number of 203 coronavirus cases with two deaths on Sunday, taking the total count in the state to 8 deaths. The wife of a taxi driver from the western suburbs of Mumbai and a man from Buldhana in Amravati division, both of them in their 40s and without any travel history, died due to the disease.

Dr Anup Kumar, commissioner, National Health Mission said that almost 35 people have recovered from the COVID-19 infection and are discharged from hospitals across the state.

After Maharashtra, Kerala is the worst affected by the coronavirus crisis with almost 202 cases and one death. Gujarat has confirmed a total number of 58 coronavirus cases and 5 deaths that includes a 47-year-old man who died on Sunday. The 5 deaths in Gujarat includes 3 of them were above 65 years of age and 2 were below 50 years.

In UP too, the coronavirus cases are rapidly increasing. The state has recorded its highest single-day count of 19 new patients on Sunday, taking its total count to 80 cases. Out of the 19 fresh cases, 12 were from Meerut, 4 from Noida, 2 from Ghaziabad and 1 from Bareilly. All 12 new cases in Meerut were contacts of the Bulandshahr man who was confirmed positive on Friday.

The 6 cases of Noida and Ghaziabad and 1 case from Bareilly who tested positive had association with a fire-extinguisher factory in Noida. The Bareilly youth who tested positive worked in this factory and had returned home on 20th March. A British national had visited the firm for audit and the information wasn’t shared with the health department.

Meerut has also been declared as a coronavirus cluster, as 8 new patients were tested positive on Sunday had contact with a 50-year-old man, with no history of foreign travel. He came to Meerut from Amravati in two trains and stayed in 3 localities, also attended a wedding and even prayed at 2 city mosques before testing positive.

On Sunday J&K reported its 2nd death of a 62-year-old coronavirus positive patient. He was a vegetable seller in his village in Tangmarg near Gulmarg in North Kashmir with no travel history.

Kerala reported 20 new COVID-19 cases taking the state’s count to 202 cases. A nurse with Kottayam Medical College Hospital had tested positive on Sunday. 4 new people, in their 20s, have tested positive for coronavirus in Bihar taking the state count to 15.
