India COVID-19 cases reaches 2000 in 4 days, 7 more people die in Mumbai

The coronavirus cases count in India continues to increase rapidly in many states. Almost 388 new infections were confirmed on Wednesday, as Tamil Nadu registered a 3-figure number for the second day and Andhra Pradesh also reported more than doubled its count of cases.

On Wednesday India’s coronavirus cases tally stood at 1,996 at 11.45pm. Mumbai recorded 6 deaths in a span of 24 hours on Wednesday while local authorities have confirmed only two deaths.

COVID-19 cases rose rapidly in Delhi to 32 cases while the spread of the virus appeared to slow a bit in the Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, which had reported 33 fresh cases, as compared to 82 cases on Tuesday.

27 cases in Rajasthan, 24 in Kerala and 20 in MP were the other states to report big single-day numbers. Nine more people died of the COVID-19 in the country in the last 24 hours.

The increase in coronavirus cases in Delhi is driven mainly by many of the Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) members and their contacts, who are now put in quarantine in different hospitals, been tested positive for the infection. The state has recorded 152 coronavirus cases so far. Officials said the number of cases might possibly increase further as 536 TJ members and their contacts are highly symptomatic. Six doctors in the state are also found to be positive. Most of them had travel history or contact history.

Assam reported an increase of 12 new cases. The death count due to coronavirus in India has reached to 57, as per the data shared by various states.

Maharashtra has reported 335 positive cases and 16 deaths, which is the highest in the country. Telangana confirmed 12 new cases and one death, taking the state’s total count to 104 cases and 7 deaths. Most of them are related to the TJ meet in Delhi.

On Wednesday, Gujarat recorded the highest spike in coronavirus confirmed cases with 13, eight of which are from Ahmedabad, 2 each from Surat and Porbandar and one from Panchmahal.

A 25-year-old youth from Basti district in UP tested positive on Wednesday, 48 hours after he died at BRD Medical College hospital in Gorakhpur. This was the first COVID-19 death in UP and the youngest person to die.

In Madhya Pradesh, 19 more patients are tested positive for coronavirus in Indore, taking the state’s count to 63.

In West Bengal, 2 persons tested positive for coronavirus died on Wednesday.

In Bihar, a 35-year-old man from Nalanda and a 40 year old woman from Gaya, with a travel history to the UAE were tested positive on Wednesday, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 24.

7 more new coronavirus cases were reported in Jammu and Kashmir on, taking the count of patients to 62.
