109 deaths in India due to COVID-19, positive cases cross over 4,000

According to the latest data from Health Ministry, the COVID-19 cases in India has reached to 4,067 with almost 700 new cases were reported in last 24 hours. The death count has reached to 109 while almost 291 patients have recovered. Maharashtra with 690 positive cases is the worst affected state, which is followed by Tamil Nadu (571) and Delhi (503). The Health Ministry confirmed 472 new confirmed cases on Sunday.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country had observed a surge from last week as hundreds were tested positive due to a religious gathering held by the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhis Nizamuddin in March. A senior health ministry official said that the rate of doubling of COVID-19 cases in India is 4.1 days currently but if the cases related to the Tablighi Jamaat had not happened, then it would have been 7.4 days. State governments are been tracing those who attended the event and the people they came in contact with them.

According to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University, the total coronavirus cases has reached above 1.27 million worldwide, whereas the death count has neared 70, 000. US is the worst affected country with more than 3 lakh cases, followed by Spain with 1.31 lakh cases and Italy 1.28 lakh confirmed cases. Italy reported over 15,000 deaths followed by Spain more than 12,000 deaths and US with almost 10,000 deaths. However, there was some decrease in new cases from Italy and Spain.

Britain has reported a record 24-hour jump in deaths, more than 600 deaths on Sunday. Italy registered its lowest deaths in more than two weeks of 525, on Sunday. New cases dropped in Spain also and death count dropped to 674.
