On Wednesday, India reported its highest single-day upsurge in coronavirus positive cases. Almost 773 new cases were confirmed taking the count to 5,274. The 24-hour rise was more than double of 354 that was reported on Tuesday.

The number of deaths had also increased in the last 3 days. On 5th April, 9 deaths were reported, which increased to 32 on 6th April, which is the highest 24-hour increase. The death count was 40 on Tuesday. Until now, 149 deaths have been reported in the whole country due to coronavirus.

The Indian Council of Medical Research said that almost 13,345 tests were conducted on Wednesday, which is the highest for a single day. Earlier, it was 11,795 tests a day. The testing numbers are increasing gradually with the national average at 82.6 per million. On 1st April, the national average was 40.5 tests per million.

The Centre has been concerned about coronavirus spreading to pregnant women and new born babies. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences has now outlined a new training module for handling the suspected and confirmed pregnant women and their ante natal care. Joint secretary of Health, Lav Agarwal said that it is very important to identify and handle such cases. AIIMS doctors would be giving technical guidance to the healthcare workers regarding ante natal care and labour management.
