750 new cases of COVID-19 reported in a single day, the highest record till now in India

On Thursday, coronavirus cases sharply rose with states confirming 781 new cases, which is the highest single-day count so far. As per the reports collected by TOI from states, it is 30% more than the previous highest of 598 recorded on Wednesday.

Maharashtra is the highest with 229 new cases and is the first time any state has confirmed more than 150 new cases. Maharashtra is followed by Tamil Nadu (96), Rajasthan (80), Gujarat (76) and Delhi (51).

31 deaths were reported from coronavirus from across the country, taking the death toll in India to 232. 15 deaths from Maharashtra, taking the state’s count to 97, and 3 in Delhi of them two at Ram Manohar Lohia and one at Apollo hospital.

The new cases in Delhi include 3 cancer patients. They were admitted to Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI) in east Delhi and other two were healthcare workers from Sir Ganga Ram hospital. 11 coronavirus positive patients in Delhi are on ventilator support and 23 patients are on oxygen because of impairment of lung function due to the COVID-19 infection.

The coronavirus outbreak in Maharashtra continues to be troublesome. The state accounts for 20% of all cases in India and over 40% of all COVID-19 deaths. The state’s case fatality rate has rose from 6.2% on Wednesday to 7.1% on Thursday, which is more than double of India’s 2.9%.

Gujarat recorded its biggest count with 76 new cases in the last 24 hours. Ahmedabad, a coronavirus hotspot, has reported 143 cases, which is more than half of Gujarat’s total count.

In Rajasthan, 80 new cases were recorded that is the highest single day count for the state. The total count of the infected persons has reached to 463. Two deaths in the state were reported of a 76-year-old man died in Jodhpur and a 65-year-old woman from Ramganj, Jaipur.

Madhya Pradesh reported 2 fresh coronavirus deaths that includes of a private medical practitioner taking the death count in the state to 32. The doctor’s children, who are in Australia, watched the process of handover of his body on the mobile phone.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan offered condolences on his death and tweeted that people like him won’t be forgotten as he sacrificed his life in service of people and fighting with coronavirus.

One coronavirus death was recorded in Telangana, a 54-year-old woman died and 18 others were tested positive taking the states count to 471 confirmed cases and 12 deaths.

Kerala, was the first state to report coronavirus infection in the country 100 days ago. It has been able to maintain a lower rate of the disease currently. The state’s count for coronavirus at present is at 357 and 2 deaths have been reported in the state.

Andhra Pradesh recorded 2 more deaths and 15 positive cases, taking the count of positive cases to 363.

Jharkhand reported its 1st coronavirus death, as a 75-year-old man died at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) on Thursday morning. The deceased had no history of travel.

Bihar recorded the highest number of coronavirus confirmed cases in a single day with 12 new cases taking the total number of confirmed cases to 51.
