47 districts in 23 states of India are coronavirus free for the past 14 days

On Saturday, the health ministry stated a positive trend that was emerged in 47 districts from 23 states for not registering even a single case of coronavirus in the last 14 days. The ministry also added that 22 new districts from 12 states had joined this list that bears witness to the success of India’s coronavirus containment efforts. But, the government said that the battle against the infection was a tough one.

Lav Agarwal, joint secretary health ministry, said that along with Mahe in Puducherry, Kodagu in Karnataka has not registered any new case in last 28 days. Also, 45 other districts in 23 states have not reported any fresh case in last 14 days.

He further said that three districts—Patna in Bihar, Panipat in Haryana and Nadia in Bengal who had not shown any positive cases earlier, had reported new cases highlighting the tough fight against the novel coronavirus disease.

Agarwal also said that a total of 1,992 people are cured of the disease till now, and the overall cure percentage is at 13.8%. 991 new cases reported over the last 24 hours had taken the total number of cases to 14,378. 48 new deaths are reported, taking the death count to 480 in the country.

The overall coronavirus mortality rate in India stood at 3.3%. The highest mortality rate of 33.1% was from 50 to 75 years age group that is followed by 32% from 75+ age group, 14.4% from 45 years of age group population and 10.3% from 45-60 years age group. 83% of mortalities also had comorbid conditions.

Agarwal said that 4,291 out of India’s 14,378 COVID-19 cases were from a single source- Nizamuddin Markaz cluster event that roughly counts about 30% of all positive cases. These updates are provided in the routine press conference held by the Indian government.
